Promise Continued through the Patriarchs – Part 5 – Genesis 49

17-20 April

Blessings on the twelve sons

📝 Overview:

Jacob’s life is coming to an end. He calls his twelve sons around him and speaks blessing on their future and the future of their descendants (some could be considered curses).
They all would make up one nation called Israel and they would enter the Promise Land of Canaan.
NOTE Genesis 49:10 “The scepter (symbol of kingship) shall not depart from Judah..” From Judah, the fourth son of Jacob, will come kings of Israel and the ultimate King – Jesus the Messiah.

🤔 Something to think about

Judah’s receives a great blessing even though his character was questionable – here we find a great example of God’s grace to the underserving.
We too are underserving – let’s thank God for His grace and for His mercy.
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” 2 Corinthians 12:9
