God’s Covenant Promise to Abraham – Part 5 – Genesis 15

13 – 16 March

The Lord’s Covenant With Abram

Overview:

God speaks again to Abram to reassure him of His promises. Unlike in previous encounters with God (Gen 12:1–9), Abram does not remain silent.

Abram’s reply to God demonstrates his frustration at Gods’ “delay” in fulfilling what Abram views as the most important step in making him a great nation—providing him with a son and heir.

God reaffirms Abram that his heir will be his biological son and that his offspring will eventually be as numerous as the stars.

Yahweh initiates a covenant with Abram by supernaturally  passing through the sacrificial offerings  .

Something to think about

  • Are the “delays” in our lives really delays when viewed through the lens of this encounter between God and Abram? (Discuss between family and friends)
  • We may not see it at the moment but we just like Abram will leave a legacy to our kin. Have faith that God will do that on our behalf as we continue to trust in Him.
