God’s Covenant Promise to Abraham – Part 1 Genesis 12

28 Feb – 2 March

Abrams Call

The Call of Abram
1The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.
2“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.”

Outline of Genesis 12:

  • This chapter is the bedrock of faith for both Jew and Gentile alike. God is once again choosing a people for Himself and he begins with Abram
  • Note Abrams’ age and his response to God’s directive. He wastes little time in gathering everything he owns “lock, stock and barrel” and begins his move.
  • The Lord appears to Abram and makes a promise to Abram that the land of Canaan will be given to his descendants. (vs 7)
  • Famine in Canaan
  • Testing in Egypt (Sarai)

Something to think about

  • Our life begins in earnest when we hear Gods’ call and then accept Him through faith. He initiates salvation.
  • The Faith journey is ongoing, shaping the believer through trials and testing.
  • God is faithful ALWAYS! He will deliver on what He promises.
